Why a forum
Since opening the beta, most feedback has been sent through email and reddit. I have read through all of the suggestions, and feedback, and responded to as many as possible! Much of that feedback is what was focused on for 0.13.1 and 0.13.2, however communication was always done behind closed doors, meaning suggestions could not be voted on, or if a bug is already reported it could create a duplicate, having a public system will help avoid these issues and speed up development, helped shape by your feedback and suggestions.
I had a few asks about a Discord server, and decided on going with a forum for a few reasons. The main being that Discord is also behind closed doors, by using a forum anyone can search or find solutions without needing to register or join a Discord server. This keeps communication open and easier for new users searching online.
How it's laid out
- General - A place for general discussion about music, or to show off your setup
- Bug - reproducible problems. The composer pre-fills a short template (what happened, what you expected, steps, version, platform) so I have what I need to chase the issue. Screenshots welcome. If you'd rather keep a report private, or send logs, the website bug form still works exactly as before.
- Feature Request - propose things, and vote on other people's. The votes genuinely steer me: network-speaker support in this release exists because it was the most repeated ask of the first feedback wave.
- Question — help with your setup. Whichever reply solves it gets marked as the answer, so the next person searching finds it.
- Announcements — posts like this one, every release.
What's new in 0.13.2
- Desktop can play to network speakers. WiiM and similar DLNA speakers appear in an output picker next to the volume control, and your streaming-quality choice carries over to them. It ships switched off in Settings › Playback while I verify it against real hardware - if you own one of these speakers, turning it on and trying this out would be great, after verification the feature will come to mobile.
- Android downloads can live on an SD card. If your device has one, Settings offers Internal or SD card. Downloads you already have stay where they are, and pulling the card mid-download won't lose what finished. (Unconfirmed, awaiting a new SD card for my dev phone)
- Open Now Playing when you start music — a new switch on desktop, iPhone, and Android, off by default. Only a play you started opens the full-screen player; the queue advancing on its own, autoplay, or a CarPlay command never will.
- Star ratings can be hidden. One switch removes them everywhere; hiding them from your view, ready to turn back on whenever!
- Liking from the lock screen and CarPlay, on iPhone. A like writes your highest rating, so it plays well with smart playlists built on ratings.
- Artwork or text-only browsing on iPhone, for Artists, Albums, and Songs - remembered per screen, next to Sort. Text only never loads artwork at all; with a couple thousand artists, you should feel the difference.
- Long-press menus on Android, on library rows, album pages, and Home shelf cards. The same ⋯ menu everywhere.
Fixed
- Home on iPhone no longer comes back empty after a force-quit - the one where the greeting painted with no shelves and it took two pulls to fill in.
- Artist and album lists stopping after a handful of rows when more than one library is enabled. This was the most reported bug of the last wave, on iPhone, Apple TV, and Android, if you still encounter issues please open a report.
- Choosing only your Music library but seeing a secondary library anyway.
- Android re-finds your server when the network changes. Leaving the house used to strand playback on a stale address; it now re-tests its routes, reconnects, and resumes the track from where it failed.
- A track that failed twice on Android stayed silently unplayable until you restarted the app. It recovers now.
- On Android lossless transcodes, the timeline shows the track's real length, and Previous works instead of doing nothing past the first few seconds.
- Currently working to implement seeking on transcodes reliably.
- Apple TV could show empty grids on a server full of music. Fixed alongside the same family of fixes the phone got.
- The desktop output button that did nothing when clicked now does something — it's the network-speaker picker. (Appears after enabling DLNA in settings)
